Please Print (A Journaling Rant):

I see so many that I know discussing how important their digital journalling app of choice has become for this purpose and… my heart sinks. I feel so sad for them. The reason….

None of these apps will be around.

Likely not in 10 years. Certainly not in 20 or 30 or 50.

He usado varios programas y apps como Momento y Journey, pero todo lo he migrado a ficheros de texto plano con Markdown. Escribir digitalmente mi diario me funciona mejor. Por otro lado, prefiero escribir mis oraciones con papel y lápiz.

El punto de Patrick Rhone sigue siendo válido. Tengo discos duros IDE que pronto ya no podré leer, por más texto plano que sea. El papel nunca será obsoleto, incompatible o desfasado. Debería imprimir mi diario.

‘Expert Twitter’ Only Goes So Far. Bring Back Blogs:

When confined to Twitter, pandemic experts mainly express themselves through 15- or 20-tweet long threads. Not only is this format cumbersome to consume, it also can’t easily be updated. To make matters worse, these threads are quickly pushed out of view by the downward pressure of the growing user timeline. A page or post on a blog, on the other hand, allows the expert to more easily write long-form content, including links to their articles and rich graphics, they can easily update as new information arises. In addition, a stable section of core articles can be maintained at the top of the site where they will be immediately visible and not pushed out of view by new content.

Mr. Boom es un juego antiguo para DOS programado por Remdy en 1997. Es un clone de Bomberman muy bien hecho y bien divertido. Hasta ocho personas pueden jugar al mismo tiempo en una misma computadora o varias en una red IPX. Oliver y yo lo jugábamos bastante y se convirtió en nuestro juego favorito.

Remdy era parte de la demoscene, del grupo Dentifrice. Mi pseudónimo en la demoscene era Jaguar.

Le envié un correo electrónico (no existía Twitter ni Facebook en ese entonces) felicitándolo por el juego y comentándole lo mucho que nos gustaba jugarlo. Me respondió agradecido.

Tiempo después, salió una nueva versión de Mr. Boom con nuevas características de juego y correcciones. El juego te permite poner tres letras para tu nombre, yo siempre pongo «JAG». Pero esta vez sucedió algo diferente…

En lugar de quedarse con «JAG» como siempre, el nombre cambió a «JAGUAR». ¿En serio? ¡No podía creerlo! ¡Me pareció la cosa más genial del mundo! No recuerdo si le volví a escribir, pero thanks, Remdy, it’s the most awesome thing ever!

Mr. Boom está disponible en RetroArch, lo he probado y el easter egg sigue allí, mi nombre inmortalizado para la posteridad. Viendo el código fuente en Github, hay otros nombres que también reciben el reconocimiento de Remdy.

Si algún día hago un juego, le pondré un easter egg similar, y tendrá un saludo para Remdy.

What’s been holding us back is fear of the unknown, and attachment to the familiar. I can’t tell you how many of the investors I see espousing distributed work once told me that Automattic would never scale past a few dozen people unless we brought everyone into an office. Or the CEOs who said this would never work for them, now proclaiming their company hasn’t missed a beat as tens of thousands of people started working from home.

El séptimo libro que voy leyendo en este 2020 es «TED Talks: The Official TED Guide to Public Speaking,» escrito por el mismísimo Chris Anderson.

Estuve buscando un libro como éste para mejorar la presentación y exposición de mis prédicas. Está basado en la experiencia de alto calibre que caracteriza a los TED Talks, sin dejar de ser práctico. Las anécdotas son muy instructivas. Lo recomiendo bastante.

Debido a la pandemia del COVID-19, Twitter se vio forzado a adelantar sus planes de trabajar distribuidamente. ¿El resultado? Ya no darán marcha atrás.
