And she said…
Flowers are red, young man
Green leaves are green
There’s no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen

But the little boy said…
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one

Well the teacher said.. You’re sassy
There’s ways that things should be
And you’ll paint flowers the way they are
So repeat after me…..

And she said…
Flowers are red, young man
Green leaves are green

Than they way they always have been seen

But the little boy said…
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one

The teacher put him in a corner
She said.. It’s for your own good..
And you won’t come out ‘til you get it right
And all responding like you should
Well finally he got lonely
Frightened thoughts filled his head
And he went up to the teacher
And this is what he said.. and he said

Flowers are red, green leaves are green

Than the way they always have been seen

Time went by like it always does
And they moved to another town
And the little boy went to another school
And this is what he found
The teacher there was smilin’
She said…Painting should be fun
And there are so many colors in a flower
So let’s use every one

But that little boy painted flowers
In neat rows of green and red
And when the teacher asked him why
This is what he said.. and he said

Flowers are red, green leaves are green
There’s no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen.

El pequeño niño fue el primer dia a la escuela
Tenía unos crayones y empezó a dibujar
Puso todos los colores sobre el papel
Porque colores era lo que él veía
Y la profesora dijo.. Qué haces jovencito?
Estoy pintando flores, dijo él
Ella dijo… No es el tiempo para arte, jovencito
Y de todos modos las flores son verdes y rojas
Hay un tiempo para todo, jovencito
Y la forma en que debe ser hecho
Tienes que mostrar atención por los demás
Pues tú no eres el único

Y ella dijo…
Las flores son rojas, jovencito
Las hojas verdes son verdes
No hay necesidad de ver flores de otra forma
Que la forma en que siempre han sido vistas

Pero el pequeño chico dijo…
Hay tantos colores en el arco iris
Tantos colores en el sol de mañana
Tantos colores en las flores y puedo ver cada uno

Bueno, la profesora dijo.. Eres irrespetuoso
Hay formas en que las cosas deben ser
Y pintarás flores de la forma que son
Así repite después de mí….

Y ella dijo…
Las flores son rojas, jovencito
Las hojas verdes son verdes
No hay necesidad de ver flores de otra forma
Que la forma en que siempre han sido vistas

Pero el pequeño chico dijo…
Hay tantos colores en el arco iris
Tantos colores en el sol de mañana
Tantos colores en las flores y puedo ver cada uno

La profesora lo puso en una esquina
Ella dijo.. Es por tu propio bien..
Y no saldrás hasta que lo entiendas bien
Y respondas como debe ser
Y finalmente estuvo solo
Pensamientos miedosos llenaron su cabeza
Y fue donde la profesora
Y esto es lo que dijo.. y el dijo

Las flores son rojas, las hojas verdes son verdes
No hay necesidad de ver las flores de otra forma
Que la forma en que siempre han sido vistas

El tiempo se fue como siempre lo hace
Y se mudaron a otro pueblo
Y el pequeño niño fue a otro colegio
Y esto es lo que encontró
La profesora allí estaba sonriendo
Ello dijo… Pintar debe ser divertido
Y hay tantos colores en una flor
Así que usaremos cada uno

Pero ese pequeño niño pintó flores
En lindas filas de verde y rojo
Y cuando la profesora le preguntó por qué
Esto es lo que dijo.. y el dijo
